okay serious post, guys.
Today I was working in the Mother/Infant unit and the charge nurse asked me to help this one patient down to see her baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The woman had a developmental problem, so in addition to her only speaking Spanish, she couldn’t really understand me or what was going on around her. Which I assume must have been scary.
So anyway, I take this woman (she didn’t have a wedding ring on, or any visitors, so since no one told me about how she came to have this baby I kind of assumed the worst) down to the NICU to see her baby. He was a little thing, premature probably. She wanted to hold him so I found her a chair and picked him up for her. I asked her what her baby’s name was and for a while she couldn’t remember. I think it was Iseil. Or something to that effect.
Anyway, I watched her watch him for about 20 minutes and right then she seemed really beautiful to me. Her hands looked like they were drawn by da Vinci. I’d have liked to be able to draw them better. I’ll probably try again sometime.
